About

The Koko Black Drawing Prize began in 2008 with the aim of expressing some of our key values; imagination and expression and generosity of spirit.

Koko Black’s core aim of inspiring our customers through chocolate cannot happen without imagination. We wanted to create a customer and community based annual event that celebrated this value and encouraged artists at all levels to participate. Chocolate aside, drawing happens to be the medium most enjoyed and embraced at Koko Black, so it was the obvious choice.

For a small company like Koko Black, the Drawing Prize is quite an undertaking. We do it with pleasure each year fuelled by the entries themselves and the joy we see in the finalists, the winners and their family and friends.

Each year, a template for the Easter Drawing Prize is created to inspire limitless creativity. Entries are judged by an esteemed panel, to determine a Judges’ Prize and Junior Prize winner. A People’s Prize winner is also awarded, voted for by the public.

The prize is worth a combined value of $4,000 in art funds, designed to help the winning artists develop his or her talents. This art fund can be put towards an art course, exhibition or art supplies. Each winner also gets a year’s membership to the art gallery of their choice and a year’s supply of chocolate.
